How does Virtual OV work?
Virtual OV is the innovative VR training for learning to travel independently by public transport. This Virtual Reality solution allows students to safely practice all important public transport skills step by step. The program is perfect for mainstream education, special education, and vocational education. Thanks to lifelike simulations and a step-by-step learning path, the transition to independent public transport becomes easier than ever. Virtual OV focuses on self-reliance, public transport skills, and boosting self-confidence – ideal for lowering the barrier to independent public transport travel.
Virtual OV: training in 8 levels en 2 challenge levels

The Virtual Public Transport training consists of a tutorial and eight unique public transport levels. After every four levels, a challenge level follows in which the student independently demonstrates what he or she has learned.
Every trainee learns:
- Reading signs, planning journeys, and transferring between bus, tram, and train
- Pay with debit card or OV-chipkaart
- Dealing with disruptions, delays, and finding alternatives in public transport
- Making your own choices and reflecting on your own actions
Each level lasts 10 to 15 minutes. A maximum of 2 levels is recommended per lesson. Can't manage a level right away? You can practice as often as needed until the skills are mastered.
Personal guidance and Companion App
Supervisors monitor progress live using the Virtual OV Companion App on a tablet. They coach, provide immediate feedback, and adapt the training to the student's level. The app supports evaluation and debriefing, and makes differentiation easy – whether for a group lesson or individual training. VR training with Virtual OV is proven effective and makes independence achievable for every student.

Virtual public transport for education, healthcare, and practice
Virtual OV is suitable for schools, care institutions, reintegration programs, and work-study tracks. Schools can easily supervise multiple students simultaneously – the VR experience can be shared via the interactive whiteboard, ensuring everyone learns in a safe, structured environment. This makes independent travel by bus, tram, train, or metro accessible to everyone.
