Virtual OV is an innovative Virtual Reality platform that allows students to learn to travel by public transport in a safe and realistic way. Originally developed for neurodivergent people, such as young people with autism or a mild intellectual disability, it is valuable for anyone who wants to become more independent – from vocational students to the elderly.
Students practice essential travel skills, such as planning, changing transfers, and handling unexpected situations. At the same time, they train executive functions and build self-confidence. This makes the step towards independent travel smaller and more achievable.
Through repetition in the VR environment, actions are stored in procedural memory, causing routines such as checking in and transferring to another vehicle to become increasingly natural and automatic.
